So umm hi. We bought some cars

Hello. My name is Phil.

We bought a Forester.

2013 with 4 speed EAT (Last year of actual auto before ceee vee tee). Timing chained n/a boxer. Possibly the Pinnacle of the modern fozzie (couldn’t find a manual). 120k kms. Minty. And actually green too, if not mint green.

But we kept the 100 series. She likes both.

But then I thought “a small car for the commute sounds like a good idea.”

Again.

So… I looked for an Echo hatch. They were all rusty AF.

Hey. What about a Yaris?

Ditto for the Yaris hatch. Rustier than F.

But… then I finally found a good fit. Like, literally: A Fit. A Honda Fit.

Thankfully it was a JDM 2005 with 130k kms so the steering wheel and wipers were in the proper place. Zero rust. Min-terior. Lol.

1.5 vtec (yo) and proper 5 speed do it yourself transmission.

First fuel return was 5.9L/100kms! Wowza!

WOW! I’ve always liked those Foresters. How has it been so far? I’m amazed at all of the work you’ve done on the 100 series. Such a beautiful vehicle.

Thanks buddy! (The 70 series is the one in the above pic, in case that’s the one you were talking about. The 100 is our white one. Which we also still have).

I allowed the internet to scare me off for a long time from Subies, giving in to the hype that I’d be burning oil, spinning a bearing and replacing a headgasket weekly. Turns out the internet doesn’t know everything. Who knew?

It is a boxer engine, and I suppose the design brief does recognize a certain penchant for oil consumption, compared to the 1UZ 4.7 V8 we have in the Landcruiser 100 (yes, the one that was also in the Tundra). But let’s call it “the price for performance”? And honestly, I check it more often, but rarely add any. I think I’ve put in about 250ml 3/4 of the way through this oil change interval? I did add some fancy Liqui Moly oil saver when we first got it, in case the seals etc had any hardening. It’s been perfect so far. Decent fuel economy (9.5 l/100km) plenty of power for an n/a. I almost never drive it, but my wife loves it!

This is the 100 Series - still the tow vehicle!

Yeah, that, too. I meant the other. But, that’s a nice one, as well.

@ChazzLayne got me noticing Fozzies back in the day. Something about the way you can lock the center diff with the auto trans in low or 2 (or something like that). Nice little adventure runabouts, imo.

And Fit is go. I’ve been in the backseat of a Fit as it lifted the inside rear (that I was sitting over) while passing multiple semis… in the right lane… that was ending… as we were merging onto the SoCal freeway system… at something like 30mph above the limit. Ummm. Also another member of this community. :face_with_peeking_eye:

LOL! FITs are good times!!

My wife loves “her car” and “her truck”. She’s very possessive over both, which is super funny/cool!

For sure. I think the FIT is probably one of my favorite Hondas (although the Accord is looking sharp these days, too). Someone told me changing headlights is a bit of a pain, maybe on the second generation? Something about having to remove the entire front clip to remove the housing for access to the bulb. Ew!

Can’t speak to headlights yet. But it can’t be any worse than a Mini R53 that you have to put in “front end service mode” right? :joy: My JDM model has HID’s (I think they’re OEM?) so that will for sure make it easier. Right? :sunglasses::wink:

39.9 miles per gallon (5.9L/100km) on my last tank. And I haven’t even done plugs/coils yet! Not bad!
